OVERVIEW
Uniting Rural Producers and Urban Consumers is a multi-year project that aims to educate, engage, and inform urban consumers in southern Alberta about agriculture and watershed stewardship through a suite of communications materials. The program connects those who are not involved in food production systems, with those who are.
WHAT'S BEING DONE
An important deliverable of the project is a web series called OWC: Eats!, where we sit down with an expert involved in food production in our watershed—these engaging videos are released publicly on the OWC YouTube channel.
In addition to the web series, the OWC is creating in-depth written interviews with producers, and planning multiple community events to bring rural producers and urban consumers together.
It has been enlightening and humbling to hear stories from producers firsthand and learn more about the innovative work that is being done in our region to tackle challenges around food production. Ranging from process improvements and practice changes, to the addition of new physical infrastructure and the restoration of native plant species, what we have learned is inspiring. These projects have also highlighted the urgency with which we must work to protect our agricultural industry, economy, and watershed from the uncertainty created by a changing climate and severe weather events.
Watch our social channels to catch the web series and share in the knowledge offered by the fantastic members of our food production community.
Thank you to CAP for their funding and continued support of the project, as well as a big thank you to all of the producers and participants who have helped make the project come to life.
