Introducing Ryan, our Second Outreach Assistant for Summer 2016
A while ago we introduced you to Thomas Porter... now we have the pleasure to introduce Ryan Bell, the second of our four Outreach Assistants hired for the Engaging Recreationists Project this summer, led by OWC's Education Manager, Sofie Forsstrom!
Ryan grew up in Ponoka, an idyllic small town in Central Alberta. After high school, he spent many years working with the mentally ill at a psychiatric hospital and travelling around the world in search of new adventures. Throughout this time he formed an intense passion for the outdoors, leading him to pursue activities such as hiking, mountaineering, kayaking, rock climbing and canoeing.
Looking to turn his love for nature into a career, Ryan spent time in the central mountain range of Vancouver Island studying with COLT (Canadian Outdoor Leadership Training), before moving to Lethbridge in 2014. He is currently enrolled in the Renewable Resource Management program at Lethbridge College and is incredibly happy to be learning about the ecological balances that form the makeup of Western Canada.
Although being relatively new to Southern Alberta, Ryan has fallen in love with the unique landscapes and friendly people. He is extremely excited to be working with the OWC, and hopes to bring his enthusiasm for the outdoors into the Engaging Recreationalists program.
When he’s not climbing mountains, Ryan spends much of his time reading, writing, cooking, biking, playing music, and enjoying photography. Please welcome Ryan to the OWC Family!
